India is a land of beautiful temples and other tourist attraction sites. But there are many secrets hidden beneath us. We all have grown up listening to horror stories from our parents and other elder members of the family. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why films like Shaitaan could connect with audiences this year.

But our country has also witnessed the popularity of romantic tales. There are certain spots in our country where we have seen the names of different couples carved on the walls. We might make fun of these things but it is possible that these stories could be true and those people have undergone a lot of things in their lives.
When it comes to love stories, many names come to our minds. The most famous among them is Laila Majnu, which is common. This is followed by Mirza Sahiba, Heer Ranjha, and many more. We also have Romeo and Juliet, which is popular despite that it did not originate in India.

It is fun to imagine the experience of watching these kinds of love stories on the big screen. There will be romance, action, emotions, intensity, tragedy, and much more. The good news is that a few of them were adapted in Bollywood a long time ago. Some films turned out to be successful and others emerged as a failure.
Notably, the adaptations of such stories were easy during the 70s and 80s. The highlight of that era was the writers and directors, who knew how to blend all the elements into an engaging screenplay.

Unfortunately, we are falling short of such filmmakers in today’s world, where directors commit a lot of mistakes as they try to adapt the story in a way that the film can impress modern audiences.
While such stories have not been adapted for a long time, Imtiaz Ali’s recent social media post has hinted towards a new arrival. There is one tale that is yet to get a film adaptation, and it is Sassi Punnu. For the unversed, the story emerged in Balochistan and focuses on a lover ready to face any trouble to find her husband who was separated by their enemies.
This one has a lot of potential to touch the hearts of the audience. It could add some thrill and some light-hearted moments altogether. It will be hard to say who could be a perfect choice to play the leads. But based on the audience’s reactions towards films, we would need new faces.
Even if the script and casting are perfect, the direction would be a difficult task. It is hard to helm a romantic story and satisfy the public for more than 2 hours. The director must present everything in an entertaining manner which is not everyone’s cup of tea.
Although there is no official announcement about the project from any producer so far, it remains to be seen how and when we will get to watch another intense love story in the theatre.
