all-time-classic-veer-zaara-touches-100-cr-after-20-years

Veer Zara was re-released in the theatres this weekend at selected venues. The opening marked 250 shows which had to be increased to 400 by Sunday because of the heavy demand.

The 2004 release Veer Zara was directed by Yash Chopra. It has the star power of Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee. The classic love story set across borders came to screen once again and earned a whopping 90 lakh rupees in the opening weekend. It is only three crore rupees away from the 100 crore mark. The question arises, will it’s successful streak continue to gain it the 100 crore club status?

Even after 20 years Veer Zara has outdone big budget films of 2024. The backlash was especially felt by Kareena Kapoor Khan’s The Buckingham Murders which managed to earn only about 5 crore in its fresh release across India. Despite the limited screens of Veer Zara it has performed significantly well.

This goes to show that people miss classic old timer films. The new films and their scripts seem repetitive to the viewers and they would rather support re-release of OG superhit films or films with potentially refreshing scripts.

Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders can now hope for a saving grace with its release on OTT. If Veer Zara continues to cast its heartfelt spell on the fans it might just hit the 100 crore mark soon!
