On May 8, 2025, Dinesh Vijan made headlines by announcing that Bhool Chuk Maaf, the upcoming comic caper starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, would skip its theatrical release and premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video.
The decision sparked major backlash from exhibitors leading to a lawsuit from PVRInox against Vijan’s Maddock Films, seeking Rs 60 crore in damages for breach of contract and requesting a stay on the film’s digital release.

Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf was announced with great excitement on May 8, 2025. However, the makers announced a few days later that they would be skipping the film’s theatrical release and premiere on Amazon Prime.
The dispute did not escalate much because the latest that we know is that the film is back on track for a theatrical release.

Here’s what a source revealed, “The court has passed its order in the Maddock Films vs PVRInox Cinemas case. Bhool Chuk Maaf, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will now release in cinemas on May 23, 2025. Maddock Films plans to resume its marketing campaign from May 15.”
Well, the fact that it will be released in the theaters has led the exhibitors to heave a sigh of relief. Now, it all comes to how well the audience responds to the comical drama.

Rajkummar Rao’s previous release, Vicky Vidya Ka Wo Wala Video, could not spark much excitement among the audience. Now, it is yet to be seen if this latest Maddock drama can bring back his charm again.
Maddock has always brought entertaining stories with limited budgets. There is a possibility that things might turn out to be positive in case the content is up to the mark.
However, with two big Hollywood releases, Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning and Final Destination: Bloodlines, arriving this week, it remains to be seen if Bhool Chuk Maaf would survive in theatres.
