Imtiaz Ali Reacts To Kartik Aaryan & Sara's Love Aaj Kal Failure

Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal (2020), starring Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan, was highly anticipated. Especially because it followed the legacy of the 2009 film of the same name, which starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.

However, despite the excitement surrounding its release, the film failed to make a mark at the box office.

In a recent conversation, Imtiaz Ali openly reflected on what went wrong with the film. The director admitted that he could have approached certain aspects differently to ensure a better outcome.

He stated that he could have done two or three things differently. He admitted that he tried to put too much into it, which made it heavy.

“The ease of the film was compromised. It became thick, and people didn’t understand what happened,” he explained. The director also acknowledged that the film lacked freshness.

When Love Aaj Kal was released, Sara Ali Khan faced intense scrutiny for her performance. However, Ali clarified that casting was never the issue.

Instead, he believes that every sequel must have a strong reason to exist.

While he had a vision for Love Aaj Kal (2020), he acknowledged that he failed to communicate it effectively.

Imtiaz Ali has previously also spoken about the underperformance of Jab Harry Met Sejal. He noted that all his films had flaws but emphasized that he made them because he wanted to.




He believed they could have done better and hoped audiences would still recognize the merits of these films, as some good aspects may not have come through as intended.
