Last week, in a lengthy tweet, Hansal Mehta wrote about the Hindi film industry being in desperate need of a reset. In the tweet, he also mentioned some emerging male stars who could carry the industry forward in the future.

This led him to his next point: there is a huge lack of women-centric films. Female actors are still relegated to supporting roles in most movies.
Even when women do get lead roles, the industry continues to question their “box-office viability.” Mehta called this mindset outdated, lazy, and frankly, insulting to an audience that has repeatedly shown up for well-made female-led films.
With the rise of OTT, things are slowly changing. However, female leads still don’t receive nearly as many compelling scripts as their male counterparts.
