Sunny Deol's Lahore 1947

Lahore 1947—the film that brings Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi back together under Aamir Khan’s watchful eye—shows both the creative ambitions and the very real problems of contemporary Bollywood. The delays have been linked to the Indo-Pak tensions and the industry’s silence after the recent attacks.

But Sunny Deol has been saying all along that the main reason for the delay is Aamir Khan’s perfectionism in post-production. That’s admirable—and in line with Khan’s reputation for quality. But it also risks making the film’s momentum and relevance fade if the delays go on too long.

Given the film’s subject matter—partition and cross-border family trauma—that timing is everything. Especially when the public sentiment is high. Aamir Khan’s decision to delay could be seen as both strategic and respectful.

By avoiding controversy and ensuring the film’s message isn’t lost in the noise of current events. But repeated delays can frustrate the fans and create uncertainty.

And considering the repeated delays it can be said that the film is unlikely to release in 2025 and it can be expected that the film may release in 2026.

Sunny Deol has other commitments lined up—including the much-awaited Border 2—so he’s still a big draw. But the industry needs to find a balance between creative perfectionism and timely delivery. Because when films become victims of their own ambition, that’s when the real problems start.
