Hansal Mehta gained fame with the blockbuster OTT series Scam 1992, which significantly boosted his career. Before this, he hadn’t seen much success with feature films. Now, he’s returning to feature filmmaking with The Buckingham Murders.

The trailer for the investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders was unveiled on Tuesday.

This film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and is set in the UK. The film follows a British-Indian detective, Jasmeet Bamra, who investigates a child’s murder while dealing with her own grief and community tensions.

The film features a mix of English dialogue and addresses religious disharmony, making it stand out from typical Bollywood films.

It premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and will have a limited theatrical release before streaming on Netflix.

Most of the film is in the English language, which marks a departure from the norm for Bollywood, as does its frank observation of religious disharmony.

Kareena Kapoor’s most recent film was Crew, which achieved moderate success. Hansal Mehta’s last film was Faraaz, which had a limited theatrical run. He then gained acclaim with the Netflix series Scoop.

As The Buckingham Murders is set to release on September 13, it will face competition from the ongoing success of Stree 2.

There are no big releases in September in Hindi. Stree 2 is wreaking havoc at the box office as there is no competition. We have to see if Kareena Kapoor can stop Stree 2’s golden run.
