Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani was a film that focussed on the illegal immigration of Indians into Western nations looking for better opportunities while facing several life-threatening challenges on the way.
The film showed the deadly trip made by Hardy (SRK) and his friends through a ‘donkey route’ to reach the UK when they couldn’t go there by legal means.

The film turned out to be a decent success in India while becoming a hit worldwide.
Now there have been ongoing talks regarding the re-release of the film due to its sudden increased relevance.

The Trump Administration’s harsh attitude towards illegal immigration has led to many illegal immigrants being returned to India in several military aircraft in horrifying conditions.
This has led Red Chillies Entertainment to consider Dunki for a theatrical re-release.

The film may just be able to perform much better at the Box Office if some things are taken care of. If the film gets rid of its romantic scenes, focussing much more on the Dunki aspect, even including extra footage on that, it will be very helpful for the potential re-release.
A more neat and tighter edit can also prove to be beneficial, increasing the film’s overall BO collections.
With ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ becoming instant blockbusters, many also expected Dunki to join the same club, owing to Rajkumar Hirani being the director.
While that dream couldn’t be fulfilled at that time, with the film falling short of the blockbuster tag, it will be interesting to see if this re-release in a completely shifted world dynamic can help it become a blockbuster.
