Box Ofice Massacre

The box office has been remarkably dull across all industries this week, with Bollywood, Tollywood, Tamil, and Malayalam films failing to impress.

Bollywood’s latest releases, Ulajh and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, have continued the trend of disappointing performances.

Ulajh, starring Janhvi Kapoor, and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, featuring Ajay Devgn, both received extremely negative reviews and poor word of mouth.

Janhvi Kapoor’s streak of flops continues with Ulajh, which saw a minimal increase in collections on Saturday, grossing 1.75 crores after an opening of 1.35 crores on Friday.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha was flat on its second day by collecting just 1.75 crores with a total of 3.5 crores in two days, heading toward another disaster for Ajay Devgn, following the failure of Maidaan.

The film will struggle to reach even a 10 crore lifetime total which is embarrassing, a stark contrast to pre-pandemic times when top-tier actors rarely delivered such flops. Post-pandemic, both Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have faced such humiliating failures.

Ajay Devgn’s 2024 has been a roller coaster, with Shaitaan performing well at the box office with 151 crore surprisingly, while Maidaan ended disastrously at 53 crore after much struggle. And now Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha would struggle to reach even 15 crores.

In Tollywood, the situation is similarly bleak. Recent releases like Shivam Bhaje, Teddy, Alnati Rama Chandrudu, and Tiragabadara Saami will collectively fail to cross 2 crores net over the weekend, indicating a dire state for the industry.

The Tamil and Malayalam industries also saw forgettable releases this week.

Raayan is maintaining some presence in Tamil, and Kalki 2898 AD continues to collect at low levels. The Hollywood film Deadpool and Wolverine is performing the best among recent releases, offering some relief to theater owners.
