Kannappa Thammudu HHVM Ghaati

After months of lull and disappointing footfalls, Telugu cinema is finally buzzing again — and the credit largely goes to Kuberaa, featuring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, the film opened last Friday to decent—though not explosive—occupancy.

But strong word-of-mouth and glowing reviews flipped the narrative quickly. By Friday evening, second shows were running houseful across urban centers, and by Saturday, Kuberaa was playing to packed houses in most A-centers. While rural areas didn’t show much pickup, the overall trend remained upbeat.

With no major Telugu release in sight, especially after Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu got unexpectedly postponed, Kuberaa has emerged as Tollywood’s torchbearer for June.

Theatres are buzzing with activity once again, and current trade estimates suggest the film could enjoy strong occupancy for at least another week or more.

Looking ahead, the Telugu film industry is gearing up for a jam-packed release calendar. Coming up later this month is Kannappa, a mythological fantasy headlined by Manchu Vishnu, with Prabhas as the main attraction.

If Kannappa also gets decent word-of-mouth, it could set off a domino effect of box office successes.

July is even more stacked — kicking off with Nithiin’s massy flick Thammudu, followed by Anushka Shetty’s intense drama Ghaati on July 11, and Pawan Kalyan’s much-hyped Hari Hara Veera Mallu on July 24.

Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom is also releasing around the same time and will hope to keep the momentum alive.

With audiences back in theatres and a strong lineup ahead, Tollywood seems poised for a serious revival. If the trend holds, the industry might make one of its most memorable bounce-backs in recent memory.
