Shekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa held its success meet last night with none other than Megastar Chiranjeevi gracing the event as the chief guest.

In his speech, Chiranjeevi spoke highly of Nagarjuna who played a character-driven role rather than a typical, full-length hero.

He praised Nagarjuna’s decision to take on such a role at this stage of his career, calling it a “perfect decision by a perfect man.” According to Chiranjeevi, this choice could add another 40 years of longevity to Nagarjuna’s journey as an actor.

Interestingly, just a few minutes before that praise, Chiranjeevi had admitted that he initially had doubts when Nagarjuna told him he was taking on a supporting character in a film headlined by Dhanush. That confession reflected the kind of career skepticism often found within senior heroes.

As the speech continued, Chiranjeevi expressed his own desire to explore OTT and web-based films.

He asked Sunil Narang’s daughter, expressing interest in working with their production house. However, Chiranjeevi was quick to clarify that he’s not interested in taking up challenging or intense roles like Dhanush’s in Kuberaa. Instead, he prefers mass-oriented, comedy-oriented.

Although some may brush it off as a routine speech, it drew attention for a specific reason—Chiranjeevi has been facing growing criticism over his film choices in recent years.

Since his political exit and return to cinema, a large section of his fan base has voiced extreme disappointment with the lack of substance and evolution in his roles. The constant chase for mass appeal, dances, and commercial tropes hasn’t earned him the respect expected for someone of his stature and age.

His latest speech only added to that ongoing debate.

On one hand, he claims to draw inspiration from Nagarjuna’s transition into strong, character-driven roles. On the other, he openly states he isn’t interested in taking up anything too challenging.

Hopefully, someday a sensible director with a solid, author-backed script will be able to sit down with Chiranjeevi and convince him to take on a role that allows the actor in him to truly shine in this comeback phase.
