Kuberaa

Kuberaa, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles and directed by Sekhar Kammula, was released in theatres on June 20th and has received positive responses from audiences.

Even though Kuberaa is a bilingual movie, Telugu audiences are sharing unanimously positive responses, whereas Tamil audiences are giving mixed reactions.

Earlier, before the release, it was expected that Kuberaa would perform well in both Tamil and Telugu states. However, now, after 2 days, the Telugu market has contributed 70% of the box office collections, while Tamil Nadu has contributed only 30%.

Following this trend, some trade experts are saying that Tamil audiences are perceiving Kuberaa as a Telugu movie dubbed in Tamil and are neglecting to watch it in theatres. They have this weird obsession with not supporting films from Telugu directors or banners, even if it stars their own Tamil hero.

Due to this, even though Kuberaa’s overall box office collections are solid, it hasn’t achieved its full potential because of the underperformance of its Tamil version.

Some netizens are also criticizing Tamil audiences for this, saying that Tamil audiences are slowly neglecting slow-paced, content-oriented movies and are only enjoying mass commercial entertainers.

They point out that slow-paced, well-made movies like Meiyazhagan have underperformed at the box office, whereas mass commercial films like Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly have become blockbuster successes. Due to this shift as well, Kuberaa is underperforming in Tamil Nadu.

Nevertheless, Kuberaa became the highest-grossing Day 1 film of Dhanush’s career. It remains to be seen how the movie will perform at the box office in the coming days and whether it will become the highest-grossing film of Dhanush’s career, surpassing Raayan.
