Director Vivek Athreya

Director Vivek Athreya is one director who grabbed attention with films like Mental Madhilo and Brochevarevarura. But his third film with Nani, Ante Sundaraniki, became a huge disaster in the Telugu states.

While the movie has its merits for sure, there are many reasons why Vivek Athreya failed to deliver a proper film, which resulted in a disaster.

However, a section of movie fans, after watching it on OTT, started overhyping the film, calling it “This is where TFI failed,” referring to TFI audiences failing to make Ante Sundaraniki a blockbuster hit.

Cut to the next project: Vivek Athreya came up with Saripodhaa Sanivaaram with Nani again. The film was deceptively promoted as a novel concept initially. All that the script has is the hero, Nani, fighting only on Saturdays. Other than this single point, director Vivek Athreya could not write or present anything novel. However, the film survived due to S. J. Suryah’s terrific performance.

Again, fans of Ante Sundaraniki started overhyping an average film like Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, calling Vivek Athreya a brilliant director and claiming this generation is blessed to have such a director.

But those who watched Saripodhaa Sanivaaram will laugh at these statements. He delivered a one-time watch film that has the single line of the hero fighting on Saturdays. Including the climax, everything is a routine template.

No other director in recent times has been overhyped like Vivek Athreya, hope he is not falling for it. Instead, he should see the result of Saripodhaa Sanivaaram in the Telugu states to come to reality and work smarter on his next script.
