Bollywood was going through a worst phase in 2022 before Shah Rukh Khan revived it in 2023. In 2022, Bollywood was facing post-Covid issues, boycott calls, and negativity due to Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death.
One of the films that was expected to do well was Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt, produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Karan Malhotra. But the film turned out to be a disappointment.

Shamshera was set in a period where the Khameran, a warrior tribe, was deceitfully imprisoned in Kaza Fort. The film’s central character, Shamshera (Ranbir Kapoor), is a courageous leader who attempts to escape and secure his tribe’s freedom. Despite his efforts, he fails.
His son, Balli (also portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor in a dual role), takes up his father’s mantle 25 years later, determined to complete his father’s mission and seek revenge.

While Shamshera is shown as a brave and fierce warrior, his son Balli starts off as a rookie and timid character but finally realizes the goal of his father and decides to fight the evil forces and take revenge for his father’s death.
Now NTR’s upcoming action drama Devara’s trailer was unveiled recently. A lot of netizens, after seeing the trailer, noticed that Devara bears an eerily resemblance to Shamshera’s storyline.

Devara features a storyline where the protagonist, Devara, is a chieftain on an island who embarks on a mission to save those around him. The film showcases familiar tropes: a father figure portrayed as powerful and fearless, and a son who starts as timid but grows into a savior.
This narrative bears a resemblance to Shamshera’s plot, where the son follows in the footsteps of his father to achieve his goals.
Nevertheless, the key factor will be how Koratala Siva handles the story. The treatment, execution, and integration of action, emotion, and high VFX in Devara will determine whether it can offer a fresh and memorable experience, despite any narrative similarities to Shamshera.
