
Love Today, starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Ivana, became a big success in Tamil when it was released in 2022. The film not only won over the youth audience but also established Pradeep Ranganathan as a promising director.
Initially, producer Dil Raju considered remaking the film in Telugu but canceled the plan and decided to release the Telugu dubbed version in the Telugu states. At the time, many felt that a remake would have been more profitable, but Dil Raju stuck to his decision.

However, Bollywood took the plunge and remade it as Loveyapa, directed by Laal Singh Chaddha fame Advait Chandan. The film starred Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor in the lead roles.
However, the film failed to attract audiences and turned out to be a disaster, with a first-day collection of just 75 lakhs. The negative word-of-mouth on the first day led to empty theaters, making it clear that the film was a washout.

The failure of Loveyapa has once again highlighted the downfall of remakes, drawing comparisons to last week’s Deva, the ill-fated remake of Mumbai Police. The trend is clear!
Remakes are no longer viable, especially in a market dominated by OTT platforms where audiences have easy access to original versions.

The word “remake” itself carries a negative perception, and post-pandemic trends prove that viewers are consciously avoiding them. Audiences today are highly aware of what’s fresh and what’s recycled.
Producers who still gamble on remakes are setting themselves up for financial losses, regardless of the star power involved. The past five years have provided ample evidence, and it’s time the industry stops misleading audiences by hiding the “remake” tag.
Dil Raju was smart to avoid producing the remake of Love Today, which would have burnt his pockets even more after disasters like Jaanu, Shaakuntalam, Family Star, and the recent Game Changer.
