Mrunal Thakur

After mesmerizing the Telugu audience in Sita Ramam and Hi Nanna, Mrunal Thakur now seems set to make her Tamil debut in Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana series.

Reports suggest that Mrunal is being considered for the lead role in Kanchana 4. The Kanchana horror-comedy series has been commercially successful, with each movie bringing new stories.

However, horror comedies like Kanchana might not appeal to today’s audience. These concepts feel outdated and cringe, and recent movies in this genre, like Geethanjali Malli Vachindi, have flopped badly, showing a shift in audience preferences over the past five years.

Content like Kanchana worked in the pre-Covid era, but audiences are now watching world-class horror content from all over the world on OTT platforms. So it is doubtful how Kanchana 4 might entice viewers now.

While Aranmanai 4 did well recently, it was a modest success with around a 30 crore distributor share. Lawrence is planning large-scale for Kanchana 4. Casting Mrunal Thakur suggests a pan-India approach as well.

The Hindi remake of Kanchana 2, Laxmii Bomb, was a huge disaster and heavily trolled.
