
The upcoming film Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, directed by Shankar, is set to release on January 10, 2025.
During an event in Dallas, Shankar shared his perspective on the film, stating that it was made keeping in mind the shorter attention spans of modern audiences, influenced by social media platforms like Instagram Reels.

This comment sparked a reaction from filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. He expressed his disappointment, questioning the idea behind Shankar’s statement. He felt it was problematic for filmmakers to design films based solely on what they think the audience wants.
In an interview, Kashyap said, “I recently read this statement by Shankar sir where he said the audience’s attention span has become very short because they watch reels. So, they had to keep that in mind while doing Game Changer.”

Anurag Kashyap added that we would only understand what Shankar meant once the film is released.
Anurag Kashyap criticized the trend of making films that feel more like collections of Instagram Reels than cohesive movies. He believes that when filmmakers focus more on audience preferences than their own creative vision, the quality of cinema declines.
