Alcohol Prices Hike in Telangana

With temperatures shooting up, the prices of your favourite alcohol are also likely to go up. It is being said that the prices of alcoholic drinks are likely to go up by 18%.

A file proposing a rise in prices of brandy, whiskey, gin, rum by 18% is said to have reached CM Revanth Reddy’s desk.

Only recently, the Telangana government had hiked beer prices by 15% in February, 2025.

Telangana incidentally has the highest consumption of alcohol and the highest excise collection per capita at Rs 4860, followed by Karnataka at Rs 4432. Already, the Telangana government earns good amount from sale of alcohol with the state hoping to earn Rs 45,000 crore in this financial year.

According to stats, 41% of men between 18 and 60 consume alcohol in Telangana. Another interesting factor to note is that Telangana has higher alcohol consumption than states like Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.




The state is trying to capitalise on the increasing consumption of alcohol among youngsters. It’s not just high consumption but state-controlled distributing, marketing and pricing of alcoholic beverages that results in high excise revenues for Telangana.
