BRS Swinging Towards BJP

BRS working president KTR was in New Delhi to meet Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan regarding the changes in UGC that would affect Telangana.

KTR went with Rajya Sabha MPs, ex MPs including ex minister Sabita Indira Reddy on his tour. The team will also meet Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways in India, Nitin Gadkari, during their time in Delhi. They will request for the extension of national highway from Sircilla to Korutla.

Telangana has Congress government and the BRS seems to be warming up to the BJP. At the state level, the BRS and BJP are not on good terms.

This meetup is a huge surprise to the party cadre and leaders. There was a time when KCR did not welcome Prime Minister Modi during his Telangana visits.

But in politics, friends and foes are decided based on the vote bank. Since BJP is trying hard to expand its base in South which also includes Telangana, BRS seems to be trying to swing towards BJP, which could give it an edge in 2029 elections.

While 2029 elections are far off, the local body elections are round the corner and any proximity could help the BRS which is craving power.

Another angle is that with cases on Kavita, KTR, hobnobbing with BJP might keep them in a safe spot.
