Pinnelli Rama Krishna Reddy Disqualification

YSR Congress Party’s Macharla MLA Pinnelli Rama Krishna Reddy was arrested in Isnapur town near Patancheru about a while ago. He was taken into custody for damaging EVM and VVPAT machines at a polling booth in his constituency on polling day.

As he is an election candidate, questions are arising about his potential disqualification and possible punishment.

Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena told the press that Pinnelli could face up to seven years in prison for violating Election Commission rules.

He said that teg EC described the incident as “shameful”. “We intend to do free and fair election. When the candidate himself violates the rules and does such activities, it is a very serious matter,” said Mukesh Kumar Meena.

Meena stated that stringent action would be taken against Pinnelli, who has been charged under 10 different IPC sections. Each of these sections carry serious punishments that could result in up to seven years of imprisonment for Pinnelli.

When asked about Pinnelli’s potential disqualification, Meena explained that there are two key factors. First, if a winning candidate is involved in such incidents, an election petition can be filed in the High Court. The magistrate which will then review the evidence and make a decision.

Second, if a person is convicted of a criminal case and sentenced to imprisonment of two years or more, they will be automatically disqualified.

It remains to be seen what actions the authorities will take against Pinnelli Rama Krishna Reddy in this case.
