The Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have the highest alcohol consumption rates in India. While Andhra Pradesh sees high alcohol sales during the Sankranti season, in Telangana, Dasara is the biggest season for liquor sales.
Bathukamma and Dasara are the most popular festivals in Telangana and every year, alcohol sales rise notably during this festive period which spans over nine days.

This year too, alcohol sales reached new heights in Telangana. According to the Excise Department, the state witnessed alcohol sales worth Rs. 713.25 crore over the last nine days. This is one of the highest sales periods for liquor stores in Telangana this year.
Sales are expected to rise further over the weekend, as Saturday marks the Dasara festival and Sunday is a public holiday. It is predicted that alcohol sales will surpass the 900-crore mark this season.

Alcohol sales are one of the sectors generating significant revenue for the state government, making this Dasara season a financial boon for the government of Telangana.
