The Telangana government’s newly launched Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has made headlines in recent days by targeting and demolishing illegal constructions encroaching on lakes.

The agency grabbed everyone’s eyeballs by demolishing actor Nagarjuna’s N-Convention centre in Madhapur a few days ago. In the past weeks, several illegal structures owned by prominent politicians have also been demolished by HYDRAA.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his Congress-led government have made it clear that HYDRAA will spare no one who owns illegal properties that were constructed by encroaching lakes.

Meanwhile, the opposition BJP has issued three major challenges to the Congress government, demanding immediate action against alleged encroachments by leaders from various political parties, including Congress itself.

The BJP’s three major challenges include demolishing AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi’s educational institute, which allegedly encroaches on Salkam Lake; BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s alleged Janwada farmhouse; and other properties belonging to BRS and Congress leaders that were built on encroached lake lands.

Akbaruddin Owaisi’s Fatima Owaisi College is alleged to have been constructed on the land of Salkam Cheruvu in Bandlaguda. This morning, Owaisi made a strong statement regarding this property’s debate. He asked the government to shoot him but not destroy the good work he had done.

The potential demolition of Owaisi’s building is not an easy task, particularly given the relationship between Congress and AIMIM over the years. It has to be seen how Revanth responds to this challenge.

Meanwhile, several farmhouses belonging to BRS and Congress leaders are situated in and around the Gandipet area and near other lakes around Hyderabad.

While demolishing the properties of BRS leaders might not be a tough task for Revanth, but taking similar action against his own party’s leaders would be a huge challenge.

In a recent statement, Revanth Reddy declared his commitment to upholding ‘Dharma,’ asserting that he would not back down from his duty.

The public now eagerly awaits to see if he will stand by his words and take on the challenges posed by the BJP.
