The Hyderabad Disaster Response-Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has been taking stringent action against illegal encroachments on lakes within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

In a report submitted to the government today, HYDRAA officially announced that it has demolished a total of 262 structures across 23 areas, reclaiming approximately 111.72 acres of land in the last two months.

Over the past two months, HYDRAA has been actively demolishing structures built on the Full Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer Zones of various lakes and ponds in the city.

According to the report, 3 illegally constructed buildings were demolished on Manemma Street (Ramnagar), 14 in Gagan Pahad, 24 near Ameenpur Lake, 42 near Sunnam Cheruvu Lake (Madhapur), and 13 near Kathva Lake in Dundigal.

Ameenpur saw the highest level of illegal encroachments, covering 51 acres. HYDRAA also reclaimed 10 acres of encroached land around Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur.

More demolitions are expected to happen at a rapid pace, as a dedicated police station has now been allocated to HYDRAA yesterday.

It is also being reported that the government is planning to implement a new rule requiring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from HYDRAA for the construction of buildings near lakes and other water bodies.
