Chiranjeevi Nagarjuna

Celebrities in Telugu states often find themselves caught in the crossfire of politics, particularly when their immense popularity rivals that of political figures. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where cinema holds tremendous sway over the masses, actors turning into politicians further deepens the connection between politics and the film industry. However, this also makes them vulnerable to political maneuvers and controversies.

In Andhra Pradesh, YSRCP has consistently targeted the Mega Star Chiranjeevi family, both directly and indirectly. While they occasionally praise Chiranjeevi, they often criticize Pawan Kalyan, Sai Dharam Tej, and even Pawan Kalyan’s mother. A striking example was when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made headlines after a video surfaced in which Chiranjeevi, in a quiet tone, requested a hike in ticket prices for big-budget films.

YSRCP’s social media platforms propagated the narrative that Jagan held more power than the Telugu film industry heroes, which did not sit well with many fans and voters, damaging the YSRCP’s image in the 2024 elections. In Telangana, although the political targeting of the Akkineni family might not have been as intentional, they too became embroiled in politics.

Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N-Convention center faced issues when it was demolished due to violations in the Full Tank Level (FTL) of a nearby lake. While this was seen as a justified move by the authorities, Congress leaders recently dragged the Akkineni family into the political fray again.

Konda Surekha controversially claimed that KTR was the reason behind the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, which was met with widespread disapproval. While YSRCP deliberately targeted the Mega family, the Akkineni family appears to have been unintentionally caught in the political crossfire in Telangana, with Congress using them to attack KTR.
