Nagpur Riots

Films can significantly influence the masses, for better or for worse. It seems we saw an extreme example of this in Nagpur on Monday.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has blamed Chhaava for fueling anger against Aurangzeb, linking it to the violent clashes in Nagpur. Speaking in the Assembly, he said the Vicky Kaushal-starrer sparked public outrage, which led to a chaotic situation in Hansapuri.

At least 30 people were injured, and several vehicles were torched as mobs clashed on Monday evening. Fadnavis reiterated BJP’s claim that the violence was pre-planned and assured strict action.

“VHP and Bajrang Dal held protests in Nagpur. Rumors spread that religious materials were burnt. It looks like a well-planned attack. No one can take the law into their own hands,” Fadnavis said.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde also condemned the violence, calling it an organized attempt to create communal unrest. He claimed a mob of 2,000-3,000 targeted homes in Mominpura and Chitnis Nagar, even attacking police officers.

The Maharashtra leaders further claimed they didn’t just attack common people, they went after the police too. According to the ruling party, this was a planned attack, taking advantage of the fire sparked by Chhaava.
