The pressure is mounting on Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. The BRS is literally after the case of 10 defectors who won on their tickets and then defected to Congress in the state.
The pink party is fighting aggressively about the defections as its floating the demand for by-elections in Telangana. They have already gathered evidence in the matter and approached the Supreme Court.

After hearing the case, the Supreme Court has asked the Speaker to give an explanation. But as per Anti Defection Act 1985, the Speaker hasn’t been given a timeline to act. And the Telangana Speaker is using this provision to avoid taking action on the 10 defectors.
The Speaker asked for a reasonable time to respond to the Apex Court. In turn, the Apex Court wondered as to how much time the Speaker would need.

The Apex Court questioned the lawyer representing T’gana Speaker if 10 months were not enough. Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi has said that he would tell the Court about Speaker’s decision on defectors.
The next hearing is on Feb 18 and there is anticipation about Speaker’s ‘reasonable time’ and if he would respond by then.

Now that BRS has approached the Supreme Court, the likelihood of defectors being disqualified is almost likely. In the past, defectors were disqualified in many states by the intervention of the Supreme Court.
Kadiyam Srihari, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkatarao, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, Prakash Goud, Dr Sanjay Kumar, Arekepudi Gandhi and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy are on the brink of disqualification.
