SIT to Probe Liquor Scam in YSR Congress Party Time

The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to enquire into the liquor scam during YSRCP’s tenure.

SIT will look into the irregularities and corruption that took place in Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL) during 2019-2024.

The seven member SIT comprises NTR Police Commissioner Vijayawada SV Rajasekhar Babu who will head it and other members include red sanders anti-smuggling task force SP L Subbarayudu, additional SPs Kolli Srinivas and R Srihari Babu, DSP P Srinivas, police inspectors K Sivaji and Ch Naga Srinivas. The Chief secretary issued an order in this regard.

A case was registered in CID police station based on a complaint by principal secretary (Revenue, VIG IV Dept) about the irregularities in APSBCL.

SIT will operate under the supervision and directions of DGP. The case in the CID police station was lodged in September 2024.

In July 2024, CM Chandrababu Naidu asked the CID to enquire into the liquor scam. Issuing a white paper, he said it was the biggest scam of its kind in AP.

The CM said that while retail sales were worth Rs 99,413 crore, payments were made digitally to the tune of Rs 615 crore. Babu also mentioned that they would refer the case to Enforcement Directorate.




He alleged that Jagan showed benami distilleries and got sub-standard liquor and beer from them under APSBCL. Due to the scam, the state exchequer lost Rs 18,860 crore between 2019-24, the CM shared.
