Udhayanidhi was given the Deputy CM’s post as a part of cabinet reshuffling. He already holds the ministries of youth welfare, sports development, rural indebtedness, special programme implementation department and poverty alleviation programme.

Apart from Udhayanidhi, four DMK MLAs were sworn in as ministers as a part of this cabinet reshuffling. Senthil Balaji, who was recently out on bail in a money laundering case, has been taken back into the cabinet.

Govi Chezhian, SM Nasar and KS Masthan are other MLAs who took oath as cabinet ministers at an event held at Raj Bhavan on Sunday afternoon.

As Udhayanidhi already holds a few ministries, he didn’t take oath as a minister once again today. He is the third Deputy CM of Tamil Nadu, after his father Stalin and AIADMK leader, O Panneerselvam (OPS).

46-year-old Udhayanidhi, a well-known actor in the Tamil film industry, ventured into active politics a few years ago. After winning the Chepauk constituency and with his party, the DMK, coming to power in 2021, he was appointed as a minister.

However, opposition parties in Tamil Nadu have criticized his recent appointment as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
