Why Narendra Modi Is Not Addressing The Nation

The last three weeks have been the most tense time period in India-Pakistan relations.

On April 22nd, five armed militants killed 26 civilians near Pahalgam in the Jammu and Kashmir. This incident is considered the deadliest attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Two days after that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a Public Meeting in Bihar, vows ‘punishment beyond imagination’.

On May 7th, India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May, striking nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, killing at least a hundred militants.

Since then, both countries have been at an undeclared war.

Every night, Pakistan is seen intruding into Indian Territory with Drones and Missiles, and Indian Armed Forces are successfully neutralizing them.

With the kind of aggression on display, it appeared like yet another war was imminent.

At the same time, there is a fake news factory on Traditional Media and Social Media peddling rumors about attacks and casualties on both sides.

Meanwhile, all of a sudden, yesterday, US President Donald Trump announced that he mediated between the two countries and congratulated them on their common sense and greater intelligence.

People across the country are shocked by the sudden announcement. They are unhappy about agreeing to the ceasefire when there is a good chance that India can bring Pakistan to its knees.

Moreover, unconditional agreement to the ceasefire also annoyed the people.

All of a sudden, the entire country is against the Modi Government.

To make things worse, there were violations by Pakistan last night. Even though the Indian Army dealt with them successfully, People are unhappy about how the Modi Government surrendered to the pressure of the United States.

One noticeable thing in the entire episode is that the Prime Minister is completely silent.

We have seen him chair many review meetings, including one today.

This is the third term of Narendra Modi in office. He is always someone who avoids talking to the Press.

In his eleven-year term so far, he has not even convened a single Press conference. But Modi directly addresses the Public whenever something important happens.

But then, Modi had shied away from the People completely.

He did not address the nation after the Operation Sindoor or during the clashes with Pakistan, or after announcing the ceasefire.

This has disappointed the people as well as the supporters of Narendra Modi.

With the Government facing the ire of the Public in accepting the ceasefire, it is unlikely that the Prime Minister will address the Nation even now.
