Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made sensational comments regarding the Tirumala Laddu, sparking controversy among millions of devotees worldwide. He claimed that Lord Venkateswara Swamy’s Laddu Prasadam, which is supposed to be made with pure cow ghee, is being mixed with animal fat.
These remarks have created a stir, as the Laddu Prasadam and the Nityannadana Prasadam (free meals to devotees), both considered sacred, have allegedly been compromised. One of the key ingredients used to make the Tirumala Laddu is Cow Ghee (Nandini Ghee) from Karnataka. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has supplied Nandini Ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams for over five decades.

However, the YSRCP government recently decided to stop the supply of Nandini Ghee, a crucial component in making the Laddu. According to KMF, they demanded a higher price to continue supplying ghee, but TTD did not agree to their terms. This decision came into effect on August 1st, 2023.
It is widely known that the highest quality cow ghee is sourced from Karnataka and Punjab. Allegations have surfaced that under the YSRCP regime, ghee was purchased from traders in other states who lacked experience in supplying it, allegedly due to kickbacks and commissions.

Beyond CBN’s remarks, even frequent visitors to Tirumala have noticed that the Laddu has lost much of its original flavor. While using alternative milk sources may not be an issue for some, CBN’s claims that animal fat is being used in the Laddu are truly shocking. These allegations deeply hurt the sentiments of Hindu devotees. Chandrababu Naidu further stated that a TDP government would conduct an inquiry into these claims.
