The Chimakurti area in Prakasam district is famous for granite. Jaganmohan Reddy’s associates from the Kadapa district allegedly looted crores of rupees from the world-famous Galaxy quarries using power and intimidation. During the previous YSRCP government, there were massive mining scams across the state.
In the Chimakurti granite industry, everything was controlled by the will of the party leaders. There were allegations that the mining robbery took place under the auspices of then CM Jagan and that Tadepalli Palace had a share in the revenue.

The Andhra Pradesh Mines Development Corporation (APMDC) owns 86 acres of land in the Galaxy Granite Quarries in Cheemakurti mandal. Twenty-five acres of this land are involved in a dispute, leaving about 61 acres under APMDC control.
About 43 acres have been leased out by the corporation in a joint venture. Since there are quality deposits of galaxy granite, many competed for the lease in this joint venture. Pratap Reddy, who runs quarries on private land locally, is the uncle of Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy.

Recently, the team that earned this income left the quarry without a fuss and ran away to Kadapa. When the TDP alliance came to power, CM Chandrababu announced that they would uncover the irregularities in the mines, and the entire gang packed up and ran away. All those who were imported from the Kadapa district to the Chimakurti area left.
