Airlines’ Disgusting Cash Grab Amid Kashmir Panic

After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 28 people, mostly tourists, there has been a sudden rush of visitors trying to leave Kashmir. This rush has led to a sharp spike in airfare for flights from Srinagar to Delhi and other cities.

On travel sites like MakeMyTrip, a one-way SpiceJet ticket from Srinagar to Delhi for April 24 is priced at over ₹28,800. The same flight costs only ₹14,600 for May 5 — showing how prices have nearly doubled overnight. Other airlines like IndiGo are charging around ₹15,000 for the same route.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked airlines to keep fares normal and add extra flights. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo have announced additional flights from Srinagar. However, many people on social media are accusing the airlines of taking advantage of the tragedy for profit. This has resulted in insane public backlash, with many actively targetting the BJP government for the price hike

IndiGo, in a statement, said it has waived cancellation and rescheduling charges for flights to and from Srinagar. The airline also added special flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Srinagar, and said it is trying to keep prices reasonable.
