The woman alleged that her husband had been physically and emotionally abusive for years.

According to her, repeated harassment and lack of support pushed her to end the marriage. She claims she found understanding and emotional comfort in her nephew, which eventually led to the decision to marry him.

The marriage was solemnised at a local temple in the presence of a few supporters. Villagers strongly opposed the union, calling it a violation of social norms.

However, the woman stood firm in her choice, saying that her happiness and dignity were more important than outdated traditions.

Videos of the wedding have since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions. Some social media users condemned the act as immoral and against Indian family values.

Others, however, supported the woman, saying she had the right to escape abuse and choose her partner freely.

Legal experts note that such relationships may be considered taboo under social customs, but personal law and local practices vary widely.

In many cases, there is no clear legal bar unless the relationship falls under prohibited degrees of kinship under the Hindu Marriage Act.

The case has reopened larger conversations around marital abuse, women’s autonomy, and the clash between personal rights and societal expectations in rural India.

As the couple starts their life together, they remain at the center of a storm that’s as emotional as it is legal.
