Bride for Rent: Latest Scam in Vijayawada

A 34-year-old unmarried man in Gangavathi, Karnataka, approached marriage brokers in Andhra Pradesh. Little did he know that his ‘marriage’ would end up as a story on social media.

Going into details, the family got in touch with one mediator Sridevi, who introduced them to a marriage broker Tayaru in Vijayawada. Tayaru along with three others showed a woman as prospective bride. The man saw the girl last month.

After that, saying the girl’s family was poor, they took Rs 3.5 lakh from the man’s family. On June 5, the man got married to bride Pallavi at Indrakiladri in a traditional ceremony.

The brokers didn’t agree for the marriage to take place in Gangavathi. They got the groom’s family to conduct the marriage at Durga temple in Vijayawada.

A grand reception was held in Gangavathi for the groom and bride. The bride’s brother, Harish, took Rs 50,000 saying their mother was unwell and absconded.

Meanwhile, Pallavi refused to lead a married life with the husband. Finally, realizing something was wrong, the family questioned Pallavi. She told them she was married and had two children. She revealed her name was Aamani.

She also divulged that the brokers promised to pay her Rs 50,000 if she played bride. However, they only gave her Rs 35,000, she said. After realizing they were cheated, the groom’s family filed a case against the brokers in Krishnalanka police station.




The gullible groom’s family lost money and had to undergo stress for no fault of theirs.
