Chinmayi Sripada Controversy: Is It Right To Hug Your Daughter?

Singer Chinmayi maintains an active presence on social media and she is always first in line when it comes to reacting on feminism topics on social media. This time, she is in the news again for a post related to consent among children.

In the post, Chinmayi says her husband Rahul Ravindran wasn’t allowed to hug their two-year-old daughter as she didn’t give consent to the same. This triggered a series of angry reactions on social media.

In a satirical reply to Chinmayi’s post, a man shared a pic of him hugging his daughter and said she doesn’t understand the concept of consent anyway.

Chinmayi didn’t hold back with her reply as she wrote an elaborate statement to give it back to the man who replied to her.

“If your daughter didn’t wriggle out and didn’t push you away when you reached for a hug – she has consented. If as a parent you are unable to read a yes or no – nothing more needs to be said.

If you keep forcing her despite her pushing and wriggling out when she wants some space – that is violating consent. You’re forcing her to sit on someone’s lap EVEN if they are a relative, forcing them to kiss, forcing them to hug someone else as a parent – that is also a violation of her autonomy.

God bless your child that you needed to post a photo with her for your ego trip.” She tweeted.

Chinmayi is aggressively debating the sequence of trigger responses to her earlier post about not hugging children without their consent.
