People’s reactions on social media platforms like X have been nothing short of priceless. One user hilariously said, “Guess I’ll have to move my second toilet seat to the garage.” Another user remarked, “Is this the Congress’s answer to Swachh Bharat? First, build toilets, then tax them!”

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman openly criticized the state’s decision, while people came forward to point out the blatant shift in the policy from promises of providing free water to imposing a tax on toilet seats!
On a more serious note, the newly imposed tax could also put a financial burden on urban residents of the state with multiple bathrooms in their homes. This could lead to their total bills increasing by a significant amount over time.
