NRI Couple’s Nightmare Journey

You might think booking an AC coach on a train will offer some more security to its passengers. Well, for an NRI couple, it turned out to be misplaced trust as they woke up to find all their valuables missing from their berths.

Kanhaiyalal Shah and his wife, residents of Delhi were returning from a wedding in Madhya Pradesh on February 5. Booking an AC coach, the couple slept thinking they were safe but it was only when they reached Gwalior station that they realized they had been robbed.

The US-returned couple lost 250 grams of gold jewelry worth ₹25 lakh, 3 Apple iPhones, an Apple watch, 80 US Dollars, and ₹70,000 in cash. By the time the woman realized that these items were stolen from her purse, thieves had already left and railway authorities could do nothing.

The victims immediately filed an FIR upon reaching Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station which later got transferred to Gwalior. While police suspect it was done by “professional thieves” who target sleeping passengers, this incident has raised some serious doubts over Indian railways.
