Pahalgam Fallout Viral Woman Above Govt’s Rule

After the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir that killed 26 tourists, the Indian government has taken a strong stance against Pakistan.

The government has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, which will impact Pakistan’s water supply, and has also ordered all Pakistani citizens in India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) to leave the country within 48 hours.

This sudden order has reignited questions about Seema Haider, a Pakistani woman living in Greater Noida without a visa. Seema illegally entered India and married an Indian man, Sachin Meena.

Their relationship has often been in the spotlight, and now, people on social media are demanding she be sent back to Pakistan too.

However, the government’s order does not apply to Seema. Since she entered India illegally and her case is currently under judicial review, she cannot be deported until a final court decision is made. The new rule only targets those who entered India using SVES visas, not those who crossed illegally like Seema.

The SVES visa scheme, created in 1988 during a SAARC summit, was meant to allow certain categories of people, like judges, MPs, businessmen, and journalists to travel easily between member countries. India implemented it in 1992. After the Pahalgam attack, all SVES visas for Pakistani nationals have been revoked, and no new entries under this scheme will be allowed.

While the government’s move signals a tougher policy, critics argue it may be more symbolic than effective. Calls for stricter enforcement and reconsideration of India’s leniency toward Pakistani nationals are growing louder, especially as public anger over the attack continues.
