A newly built railway overbridge (RoB) in Bhopal near the Aishbagh Stadium has become a topic of intense discussion on social media due to its unusual design.
Constructed over a span of 10 years at a cost of ₹18 crore, the 648-meter-long and 8.5-meter-wide bridge has not yet been officially inaugurated. What has sparked concern among users is its sharp 90-degree turn, which many believe could pose serious risks to drivers.

Photos and videos of the turn went viral, with users calling it everything from an “engineering marvel” to a “disaster waiting to happen.”
One user commented that the Chenab Bridge pales in comparison to this structure, while others drew sarcastic comparisons with infamous constructions like the Gokhale Bridge in Maharashtra and the Ghantaghar in Bihar.

Social media users questioned the planning behind such a design, with one post reading, “Who approved this? A potential accident zone waiting to happen.” Others joked that it was a “Pythagorean masterpiece” and the kind of structure “that will never be correct any time of the day.”
Despite the backlash, officials from the Public Works Department have defended the design. Chief Engineer VD Verma explained that the sharp turn was unavoidable due to a shortage of available land in the area, which is also impacted by the ongoing metro station construction. He added that the primary objective of the RoB is to link two nearby colonies.

As of now, the bridge remains unopened, with many residents hoping that proper signage, safety measures, and road banking will be introduced before it becomes operational.
