Retired IAS Officer Attacked Over Rs.10

A shocking incident in Jaipur has highlighted disrespect towards the elderly, even those who served the nation in high positions. RL Meena, a 75-year-old retired IAS officer, was assaulted by a bus conductor after a disagreement over ₹10.

The officer missed his stop at Kanota because the conductor failed to inform him. When Meena requested to get off at the next stop, Nayla, the conductor demanded an extra ₹10 for the additional distance. Mr. Meena refused to pay, pointing out that it was not his fault.

An argument broke out, during which the conductor pushed the elderly officer. In response, Mr. Meena slapped the conductor, who then assaulted him. The conductor, identified as Ghanshyam Sharma, has since been suspended.

A complaint was filed at Kanota police station, and an investigation is underway. The incident has drawn widespread criticism, with many calling for more respect and sensitivity towards senior citizens.

This incident raises serious concerns about the behavior of public service workers and the treatment of elderly citizens. Such degree of disrespect was shown to a retired IAS officer. A person who dedicated decades to serving the nation. That too after cracking the toughest exam in the country.

This only highlights the broader issue of insensitivity and lack of accountability in public services. It reflects poorly on the standards of professionalism expected from those tasked with serving the public. People are asking for a fitting punishment for the conductor.
