A video from a hotel in Kashmir has gone viral following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, where 26 Hindu men were killed and over 20 injured. In the clip, a group of women, believed to be hotel guests, attempt to reassure tourists, saying “yaha darne ki koi baat nahi hai,” and calling the massacre “chhoti moti gadbad.”
The response online has been one of outrage. Many found the remarks shockingly insensitive, with one user saying, “Utter shame on these ladies for calling 26 killings ‘choti moti gadbad’.

Who are these idiots?” Another noted, “This was a massacre. People were targeted based on religion, forced to show ID, asked to recite Quranic verses, and then shot.”
The attackers, dressed as Indian soldiers, carried out a cold-blooded execution. The victims were only Hindus, and thus several commenters have speculated about possible Pakistani knowledge or involvement.

While it is possible to interpret the video as a misguided attempt to protect Kashmir’s tourism economy, that too when a growing call to boycott Kashmir is gaining traction nationwide, still it is very debatable whether they should have phrased it in a more sensible way. These women may have been trying to counter that hateful anti-Kashmir sentiment.
“Yes, the wording was a mistake,” one user wrote, “but perhaps they were just trying to stop more hate.”

Still, for many, the video came off as tone-deaf and dismissive of a deeply traumatic event.
