Student Kills Self Over 2 Marks

The tragic suicide of an 18-year-old student after failing JEE exams has raised concerns over the system. Despite scoring great marks, she missed the cutoff for the General category while students with lower marks got ahead of her.

Aditi Mishra, a Gorakhpur student who reportedly scored 90 out of 100 in JEE, failed the exam by just 2 marks leading to her feeling dejected and taking the extreme step to end her life. A man took to X claiming the system has failed her as people with reservations go to IIT with far fewer marks than her.

Netizens added to his rage by questioning how the government that claims to provide “equal opportunities” pushes hard-working students to despair while favoring those with lower scores. They say reservation was meant to uplift, not punish merit.

Meanwhile, some users came to defend the reservation and asked “Why do certain groups struggle to even reach a score of 62?” Others point out the hypocrisy as OBCs, who enjoy quota and general merit seats, are not targeted because they are a vote bank.
