Residents of Pune recently gathered in large numbers to worship a gulmohar tree that appeared to be releasing what they believed was holy water.
The incident took place in the Premlok Park area of Pimpri, near the Sahara Society. Locals adorned the tree with garlands, turmeric, and vermilion, convinced that the water had divine or healing properties. Videos of the scene quickly spread across social media.

The flow of water from the tree’s trunk sparked excitement and reverence among onlookers, with many treating the site as miraculous.
However, after receiving reports from concerned citizens, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) conducted an investigation. Officials soon discovered that the so-called holy water was actually leaking from a damaged underground pipeline located near the tree.

A video shared online showed residents performing rituals at the base of the tree while water trickled down. While many praised the tree’s “miracle,” others criticized the incident as an example of superstition and lack of scientific thinking.
One user commented on X that while India once produced great philosophers and thinkers, it is disheartening to see such blind faith continue in modern times. Others expressed concern about the country’s progress being hindered by such beliefs.

This is not the first instance of mistaken belief. A similar incident occurred last year at the Banke Bihari Mandir in Mathura, where people collected and drank water dripping from an elephant statue. It was later confirmed to be condensed water from an air conditioning unit.
Despite explanations from authorities, belief in such events remains strong among many communities.
