A bride’s family in India had to call off a wedding after the groom complained about the quality of the furniture he received as dowry. Screenshots shared on Reddit by the bride’s cousin revealed the groom’s rude messages, leading to the cancellation just 10 days before the wedding.

The bride’s family sent several pieces of furniture as a wedding gift, including a bed, mattresses, and a sofa set. However, the groom, a teacher preparing for the UPSC civil service exam, was unhappy with the gift. In his messages, he questioned whether the furniture matched his “standard” and stated that he would have preferred nothing at all.

In a conversation with his fiancée, he expressed frustration, saying, “Isse badhiya kuch mat dete (It would have been better if you had sent nothing).” He also criticized the furniture for taking up space and not being “worth showing to anyone.”

The bride’s cousin clarified that, while there were no formal dowry demand, and the furniture was given voluntarily, the groom’s reaction prompted the bride’s family to cancel the wedding.
