Let’s rewind for a second. At one point this season, MI were at the bottom — 10th place, low on momentum and full of questions. But something clicked… and this very game against DC is what lit the fire.
At one point, Delhi Capitals were cruising. With 6 wins in their first 8 games, they sat comfortably in the top two — a 90% chance of qualification, said the numbers.

But sport can be cruel. From that dominant position, DC unraveled completely.
A shocking slide saw them miss out on the playoffs altogether, becoming the first team in IPL history to do so after such a strong start. The collapse was as dramatic as MI’s rise.

From here on MI went on a dream run — 7 wins out of 8 games. No drama, just pure dominance.
Suryakumar Yadav once again led the charge with a brilliant knock — 73 off 43 balls.
He took his time early, got used to the slow pitch and then exploded in the death overs like only he can.
Thanks to him MI reached 180/5 — a total that looked way above par as the game progressed.
Once MI had the runs on the board it was all about execution — and who better than Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner to do the job?
Santner spun a web around DC’s batters and finished with 3/11 while Bumrah nailed his yorkers and broke the back of the chase with key wickets.
DC never stood a chance. Bowled out for 121, their playoff hopes were crushed — and history was made.
DC became the first team to miss playoffs after winning their first four matches in a season. Ouch.
This win is MI’s 11th playoff qualification in IPL history. Despite the rough start they’ve once again shown why they are one of the most feared teams in the knockout stages.
And let’s not forget — Suryakumar Yadav is closing in on 600 runs this season. He’s been MI’s heartbeat with the bat. Bumrah has been lethal. The team has peaked at the right time.
The playoffs are set: RCB, GT, PBKS and now… MI. The comeback kings are here and they’re bringing serious momentum.
