IPL Auctions are one of the most awaited events associated with sporting events in India. Billions are spent on players both international and domestic in hope they can perform for their respective teams. However, there’s something that the owners are not happy about and they have expressed it very clearly.

The owners of all IPL teams had a meeting with the organizers to discuss the retention policy and prospect of having a mega auction. One thing that most teams agreed with is that something should be done about players who don’t come to play after getting sold at the IPL.

If you spend more than ₹10 crore on a player and the player pulls out of the tournament for whatever reason, they want to impose a ban on such players. The concern here is understandable as teams build up their core around these big marquee players and their absence can backtrack these team’s entire strategy.




A couple of teams have demanded that a 2 year ban should be imposed on such players. It would be interesting to see how this goes with the organizers as some of these players are also the biggest crowd pullers for the game. A ban on them could impact the global viewership of the game.
