The International Cricket Council is going to have a new chairman and it’s going to be an Indian. Jay Shah has been elected unopposed, the new Chairman Of the ICC and he is going to start his tenure from the 1st of December. All the 15 members of the ICC board had nominated Jay Shah for the role and he was the only candidate for the job.
This also makes Shah, the youngest ever chairman of the board at just 35. He has been serving as the honorary secretary of the BCCI and the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council for a long time now. With his experience in dealing with international issues, the board members are confident about the game’s future.

One of the first missions for Jay Shah as he himself said is to help the sport reach a global status. He emphasized that the inclusion of the game in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is a big opportunity to brand the game worldwide.
However, it would be interesting to see if the board would actually do that. If it becomes a permanent Olympics sport, India would lose the total monopoly it exercises over the game in international events and be subjected to laws that are equal for everyone.

What it means is that if India decides not to play a tournament because the team is reluctant to travel to the host country, the team would simply be disqualified rather than the whole tournament being shifted to another country just for them. The level of control the BCCI has over the game is ridiculous at the moment and is also the biggest hurdle preventing the expansion of the game.
