Kanguva Vettaiyan

In a dramatic twist, Suriya’s Kanguva is likely to avoid a head-on clash with Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan.

Initially slated for an October 10 release, Kanguva’s producers are now eyeing October 31, the Diwali date, to maximize box office potential and avoid splitting screens.

This clash, initially set for the Navratri season, would have been intense given both films’ high stakes.

However, it appears that an amicable resolution has been reached between Kanguva’s Lyca Productions and Studio Green, the producers of Vettaiyan, paving the way for Vettaiyan’s solo release on Dussehra.

Lyca Productions, reeling from recent setbacks including all-time mega-disasters like Lal Salaam and Indian 2, which have cost them a loss of around ₹400 crores, desperately needs a big hit to recover.

The production house is banking heavily on Kanguva to make a comeback. Kanguva’s budget has already surpassed ₹350 crores, according to trade.

Despite the Diwali release date, Kanguva will still face competition from Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi and Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran. It remains to be seen if these films will adjust their release schedules to accommodate Kanguva.

While Suriya avoids the clash with Rajinikanth, he now contends with Ajith and Sivakarthikeyan.
