He also added that during his theatre visits for Retro, most of the audience had enjoyed the film and told him that the film was good, wondering why it had received mixed responses.

Following this, some Kollywood trackers and netizens are responding that, nowadays, not only Karthik Subbaraj but most Tamil and Telugu directors deliver a flop movie and then say that it ended up disastrous due to paid negative campaigns, claiming theatre responses were excellent.

Hatred campaigns and targeted trolling do exist, but they won’t affect a movie’s collection if the movie is good. They will affect it if the movie is average or weak, so Retro is just a below-average movie, which is why it ended up as a disaster, says the Kollywood audience.

However, for the past few weeks, many people on social media have been speaking about these paid campaigns against movies, and now Karthik Subbaraj’s statement has added more fuel to a heated debate about this topic.
