The Tamil film industry was once bustling with superstars like Thalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar Rajinikanth and others. Even Kamal Haasan made a grand comeback with Vikram and entered the big league.

However, things are not looking very positive for the Tamil film industry at this point in time.
Thalapathy Vijay has nearly quit films as he is looking to have a day in Tamil Nadu assembly elections next year. He is currently working on what appears to be his final film, Thalapathy 69 before his political campaign.

Asked for Ajith Kumar, he appears to be deviated from the mainstream cinema culture. He is keeping himself occupied with car racing, and related activities. He didn’t even come out to promote his latest film Vidaamuyarchi which released today. It’s a matter of time before he shifts full focus onto car racing and stuff.
As for Rajini, he is at the fag end of his career and hits are hard to come by. An occasional Jailer is keeping things going. Though his aura is unrivalled and unmatched, age is certainly catching up and understandably so as well.

Kamal Haasan had Vikram but there isn’t much promise from him in the near future.
Sivakarthikeyan is doing decent films and promises to be the next big thing. But he might not be considered in the same bracket of Vijay or Ajith who had demigod status in Tamil.
The end point here is that Tamil cinema appears to be well past its prime as the final league of superstars, barring Rajini, are not showing the best of promise in terms of cinematic quality.
